THE BEST VIEW IN TOWN 

 

Lynton Cottage was built for William Sanford in 1815, one of the first grand homes built in Lynton for outsiders.

​

Its wonderful views are unique even in this picturesque town, which became known as 'Little Switzerland' because of its breath-taking scenery.

​

Lynton Cottage became a hotel in 1862 and has welcomed guests ever since.

 

In 2016, it underwent major refurbishment to create ten self-catering apartments, of which Penthouse Lynmouth Bay is the only one with three double bedrooms and sea views from three separate balconies.

Penthouse Lynmouth Bay, being the highest point of the property offers its guests unrivaled views of the sea, the gorge and the river in Lynmouth Bay, as well as the cliffs and countryside towards Porlock.

PENTHOUSE LIVING

 

The top floor of PHLB offers a slice of stylish, contemporary living.

 

Situated in the eaves of the Victorian wing of the building, guests mount a small flight of stairs to emerge in the centre of an open-plan loft style kitchen, dining and living area.

​

Wonderfully light and airy, and with sea views from three separate balconies, the top floor features exposed beams and sloping ceilings.

PENTHOUSE DINING & COOKING

The kitchen in the apartment was updated in 2021 and is fully equipped allowing guests to do as much or as little self-catering as they choose. Kitchen essentials; cooker, hob, fridge, freezer etc are enhanced by non-essential but very welcome items, such as a microwave, dishwasher and Nespresso machine.
A wealth of culinary equipment and tableware is provided, and there’s plenty of stylish white crockery and glassware, including Champagne flutes. Younger guests will find a selection of non-breakable plates and bowls, as well as child-sized cutlery.
The dining area meanwhile, has been left deliberately simple to allow guests to position themselves as they like. The table comfortably seats six. A highchair for toddlers (which easily converts to a low chair) is also provided.

MASTER SUITE

 

The spacious master suite at PHLB has been decorated in warm neutral tones, and has been tastefully furnished to provide a touch of luxury. 

 

​Guests can appreciate the sea view from both the comfort of the king-size bed, and from the cosy two-seater sofa in the window. 

 

Luxurious bedlinen, driftwood accessories and warm lighting complete the tranquil and cosy feel to this room.

 

The en-suite bathroom meanwhile, has a church view and benefits from a bath as well as an over-bath shower.

BAY VIEW BEDROOM 

 

As its name suggests, uninterrupted sea views are the dominating feature of this room.

 

​The king-size bed has been positioned to face the window, allowing guests to enjoy the vista while luxuriating in silky high thread-count bed linen.

 

Like the master suite, this room benefits from handpicked accessories chosen to complement the spectacular sea views.

 

The free-standing wardrobe, bedside drawers and console table provide plenty of storage, while the seaman’s chest houses a travel cot and bedding. 

 

​The family bathroom with its walk-in shower cubicle, toilet and hand basin is just along the hall.

GREY BEDROOM 

 

Perhaps the most contemporary of the three bedrooms is the Grey Bedroom. With church views over the historic rooftops of Lynton Cottage, this large room features stylish, calming decor and an exceptionally high level of comfort. 

 

Guests can choose from the only super-king size bed in the apartment or a pair of singles as required, all fitted in luxurious high thread-count bed linen. 

 

A large fitted wardrobe, bedside drawers and console table provide plenty of storage, and the bathroom with walk-shower cubicle, toilet and hand basin is located just next door. 

LYNTON COTTAGE GARDENS 

 

Lynton Cottage is set above a couple of acres of private grounds overlooking the sea. The gardens slope downwards, and provide guests with private access part way down the zig-zag footpath which leads to Lynmouth.

 

Guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens, which feature mature trees and shrubs, little footpaths and secluded seating areas.

 

At Easter, they provide an ideal wilderness for Easter Egg hunts, and in the summer a lovely place to curl up with a book or simply enjoy the view.

Fantastic Views

and location. Plenty of toys and films to keep the kids amused, which we weren’t expecting.

 

Lots of useful, up to date information provided in a folder in the property which helped us choose local walks and places to eat. All 3 generations of our family voted it a huge success.

Fantastic location

We had a brilliant 10 days staying at the Penthouse Lynmouth Bay. The apartment is very spacious and  extremely well equipped, with fabulous views of Lynton and the coast.

​

The location is also fantastic, being just a couple of minutes' walk into the centre of Lynton. We hope to return for a second visit soon!
